Built in 1992 as an inn, the adobe-style structure-composed of two houses bridged by a small courtyard was designed by Mani Subra, a disciple of Frank Lloyd Wright, and bears the famed architects imprint. Its plethora of jutting decks, terraces, and balconies on every side and level commits to the philosophy that a house should be an integral part of the landscape.

Set on a wooded acre dense with junipers and cedars, the inn’s façade is finished in Southwestern colors, its terra-cotta-painted stucco complemented by teal trim on windows and doors. The organic building is as natural and harmonious a part of the environment as the red rocks and sky that serve as a spectacular backdrop. A path winding past a rock pond leads to a garden gate, which, when opened, reveals a courtyard shaded by towering trees and abundant with cacti, indigenous plants and potted perennials.

The inn contains sixteen individually designed guest quarters, all of them vaunting the same amenities, which include incredible views, fireplaces, refrigerators, and baths with spa tubs and robes. The décor throughout is eclectic, with colonial antiques such as the large table made of Sedona lodge pole pine in the dining room. It is here where guests enjoy full breakfasts, especially on cooler days. Mornings begin with seasonal fruit, maybe a poached pear with cranberries, followed by southwestern eggs Benedict topped with hollandaise, Apple stuffed French toast, or other such entrees. Early evenings are when hors d’oeuvres are set out in the split-level common room, a time for guests to share the highlights of the day. However, more often than not, people prefer being out doors, which is why the terraces are brightened with patio furniture and striped umbrella tables. As soon as it warms up everybody eats in the garden.

It is here, in an area many call “the Eden of America” that Casa Sedona was built in 1992. Conceived by Frank Lloyd Wright protégé, Mani Subra, the inn was designed to become one with its environment and to maximize the surrounding view from every possible perspective.The grandeur of the area is an integral part of the inn, which is composed of two Spanish- style haciendas built of Sedona Red Rock stucco. A sculpted Native American maiden presides over the cascading fountain in the inn’s main courtyard, while the thick hand-hewn door at the inn’s entrance bears Native American carvings. Wrought iron accents in a subdued shade of teal mirror the area’s extraordinarily blue sky. Colorful flowers and native plants bloom throughout the grounds and weathered wicker furniture beckons under large shady trees.”

Once inside, the inn’s common areas boast a large fireplace crowned with talismans characteristic of the culture of the Southwest. Under high, pine-beamed ceilings a selection of books can be found for you to enjoy during your stay. All 16 rooms offer queen or king beds, including four-poster beds ingeniously crafted from wrought iron and, in one room, a richly polished oak sleigh bed. Each room has a fireplace, a private patio or terrace and a luxurious bath. Many of the rooms offer a whirlpool tub for two. Guests enjoy spectacular Red Rock views from room balconies. Plush robes, hair driers, refrigerators and ceiling fans are among the amenities provided. Casa Sedona is known for wonderful breakfasts served in the Sunrise Alcove, which catches the first rays of the sun as they break over the horizon. During the summer months, dine on the patio overlooking the colorful garden. Begin your day of adventure with coffee, juice and fresh fruit, followed by entrees such as stuffed French Toast or Donna’s delicious granola. On any morning, the choices will spark your appetite for a day of exploring or just plain relaxing. Afternoon appetizers are served by the fireplace in front of a crackling fire.
